The organisation World Archery, formerly known as FITA came about from the sport of Archery being kicked out of the olympics.
Archery was one of the original sports on the Olympics but had the problem that every country had their own way of doing things and their own set of rules. This gave the hosting country an enormous advantage. So from 1920 to 1972 Archery was told to go away and fix up its' act. So they did and FITA was born and eighty years later they decided to change their name to World Archery.
